By combining a rural tech hub initiative with comprehensive support services such as childcare, counseling, a food pantry, clothing resources, youth programs, and community education, Shortline Crossing helps residents build stable, sustainable futures.

Economic Revitalization & Workforce Development
Rural Tech Hub Initiative – Wetzel County Shortline Crossing is leading an economic transformation initiative designed to bring high-growth opportunity into rural West Virginia. In collaboration with the Wetzel County Commission, local employers, Merit America, and remote-work partners, we aim to:
Develop a rural tech hub that provides access to high-speed internet, computers, and co-working space
Offer industry-aligned technical training and certification pathways
Connect residents with remote job opportunities in tech, customer success, digital operations, and more
Provide onsite childcare, enabling parents to participate in workforce training and remote work
Support local entrepreneurship, small-business creation, and digital literacy
Food Pantry
We distribute groceries to individuals and families in need, partnering with food banks, local businesses, and donors to maintain a dependable supply of nutritious items.
Clothing Closet
A free clothing resource for families, offering everyday apparel, professional attire for job seekers, prom/formal wear, children’s items, toys, and various other donated essentials.
Indoor Playground & Free Childcare
A safe and engaging environment for children to play while parents attend classes, access services, or pursue workforce training. Free childcare is offered during designated hours to support working families.
Teen Hangout & Youth Development
A dedicated space for teens to relax, socialize, and participate in mentorship programs. Activities include games, leadership development, life skills training, and interest-based workshops.
